Did a little research on the group camp here at Clear Lake called Camp Kippechewan. Fairly booked up already but there is one weekend still open in July 7-9. (i.e. available from Friday at noon to Sunday at noon)
The cost is $5 per person/night, kids 12 and under free. Holds up to 60 people.
The site is a private spot in the forest at the west end of the lake with it's own beach (when the water is lower than it is now), a large grassy area for games, a kitchen shelter, cook shelter (not sure what the difference is), 2 dry toilets, firewood and a large fire circle by the beach.
Just curious if people are interested in one night or two, and if one arriving on Friday leaving Saturday or arriving Sat leaving Sun. We'll have to book very soon to secure that date otherwise it will be well into the fall or early summer dates left (mosquitoe season).
What kind of things would you like to do?: water sports, caching games, ultimate, BBQ potluck, pancakes, horse back caching, ball games, mountain biking, other?
Thoughts?

I'd be all over a Clear Lake Camping Event cache, but that's the Winnipeg Folk Festival weekend.

We are no longer into camping, but would like to attend the event if we can get a motel in Wasagaming or Onanole. With so many caches in the area, we might have to stay for more than two days .

We usually book a cabin at Wasagaming, and like Peter and Gloria, would plan on staying for longer than just the cache weekend.

We'll be out at the Peace gardens that Saturday but maybe if I twist someone's arm we can take the long way back to Morris....we'll see. I know I can't stay over night that weekend because all my backup (job-wise) is at the Folk Festival.

I'm not much into the sleeping with nature thing, but that doesn't mean I can't participate at the campsite whilst awake ... I can probably get a hotel for the night in the area.

Sean, this may be something you could poll the membership on. Contact Tobey, and she and I can look into getting this onto the website so that we can accommdate all the people who don't tend to come into the forums

It looks like there is enough interest. We only need 10 adults minimum. We could potentially look into options for those who don't wish to be that close to nature. We probably didn't sell the site as well as we could have. It's one of the nicest we've seen, and given that I've worked in parks for close to 20 years that is saying something. July would be the perfect time to enjoy it and unfortunately in the summer I think we would always be in conflict with one event or another. Folk fest will draw lots of people away but conversely it might be slightly less insane at Clear Lake that weekend as a result. It's probably the reason that is the only weekend not booked there yet.
Probably no need to poll wider than this discussion group. We have a sense of what people are thinking now, although no one has really talked much about what their dream event by the lake would involve aside from sailing (which is fairly popular there). Its a given that there will be more new caches in the area by then as I see even the caching Riding Moutain caches are starting to appear.
I forgot to mention that there is also the expense of a park pass to use the site. The only other factor that we need to solidify is some local help to set it up and that is looking promising at this point.
Looking forward to more ideas and thoughts,
Cheers, Dragonfreys

The lizard troupe may not be able to make an event at that time. But it sounds like fun!
I would suggest that we extend the olive branch to the Saskatchewan Geocachers association. I doubt it would increase the population of the event too much, and it would be fun to bring out two groups together. Let me know if you want to do this and I can contact them, or at least forward you their information so you can.
From what I understand, the language barrier would be minimal.

Excellent idea Lizardo,
One of 'them' threatened to come to the potluck, but didn't end up making it. I have the contact info and can post in their discussion area. We do get quite a few people from Saskatchewan here in the summer.

We've booked the two days for now to hold them. We'll have to think about activities now. Too many options. Ideas T? Maybe we can find out more at the June event as we are hoping to make it.

Has there been any more discussions/ descisions on this or is this being placed on the agenda for the next MBGA meeting?
Because I have to come so far preplanning is a must!
