As of this morning, (May 15), there appears to be 96 caches that were placed in Manitoba in the past month with the word Splash in their title. I am not sure if all these qualify for the Splash contest or not, but just thought I'd give a rough idea for those participating in the contest to guess the number of caches that will be placed. If you haven't seen it, here is the list of guesses:

Today saw the publishing of the 121st Splash cache tying last years Blitz event.

And there is still 4 more days to make Splash hides! Congratulations to all involved.

I have 2 caches of my own in for approval and a few together with another cacher. We could only submit for approval yesterday - I noticed that the deadline is May 31st midnight which makes sense but what if they are not approved before that time? Is there a day of grace? Then the deadline listed might have been May 29th for submissions...

I'm certain good reason will be used as always and I realize that to hide May 15th and only list on the last day wouldn't be the wisest. I know this was a bit of a challenge last year as well.

50 more hides than last year! Congratulations to one and all!

171 is a preliminary count, however. I might have missed one or two. Please check your hides, and if they haven't been added to the MBGA Cache Splash 2007 bookmark list, please let me know. I should be able to announce the winner of the "Guess the number of Splash hides" contest in a day or two.

One "Splash" cache was published in error, and has been retracted. That leaves the final total at 170 hides.

Lagavulin is the winner of the "Guess the Number of Splash Caches" contest, with a guess of 170. Congratulations!

Now we wait 'till September to see who wins the hiding part of the competition.

wheeee! when i lived in portage la prairie, my english teacher used to award "all expense paid trips to Bagot"

Thanks to some effort on our esteemed web guru's part, I am pleased to announce that there is now a page available that lists the current Splash point totals, users and caches. It has been updated to include the 10 point first hide bonus, and a preliminary review done to check that caches with distance and/or location requirements have met them.

The table is based on a database backend, which I will update periodically as caches are disqualified for being unavailable for too long. "Too long" means archived or disabled for more than a total of 2 weeks (14 days) over the summer.
