Great news the Evergreen School Division (Gimli, Riverton, Arborg) has announced that Geocaching will be available as a high school phys-ed credit. I don't have all the details about what the requirements will be yet but should have that info soon. Here is the link to the newspaper article,

Imagines ertyu with a rifle in his hand and starts reciting the old creed which some of you may remember from Basic training:
this is my rifle this is my gun, this for shooting this is for fun.
Spent many a time having to recite this infront of my whole platoon for reasons I shall not go into now... |

That is fabulous. Our oldest son, who is not a typical athlete, can hike for a geocache in the Whiteshell or in Alberta with ease. He is entering grade 9 and has had numerous arguments regarding the validity of geocaching as a physical activity. Good for the province. Now if the present provincial government could just give us funding for staff back again instead of the cut-backs that will cause us to lose money and staffing this year we'll be happy. With the new current funding SLASH our local school will lose 1.5 teachers and our newly implemented 7/8 home-ec program. Crazy that they promised the new funding was supposed to help schools and its gonna kill ours. Read the papers. ALL schools are losing especially rural. |
