I took a look through the data that I have, but I don't have a layer with the Winnipeg Parks labelled either.

That's a great animation Dragonfreys! It really shows how geocaching has grown in this province over the years.

That animation reminds me of the maps they show in virus outbreak type movies. Smile

I was thinking that exact same thing.

Here's the two updated tables with hider by year placed caches for both total and active caches. Interesting that VIMT shot to third all time highest number of hides in a matter of days. Hope they are able to maintain them. The table also gives a feel for when various cachers have been active hiders. Although 1Q&4Jokers have hidden more caches to date than PBD, PBD still has the in MB record, but at the rate 1Q&4Jokers is placing it is only a matter of time.

Total Manitoba placed caches table (includes archived caches)

And the active caches as of 15 Aug 2008.

Looks like proportionally there are a few more bugs out there now.

Cache Type Bug No bugs
Multicache 7.08% 92.92%
Traditional Cache 9.41% 90.59%
Unknown Cache 10.00% 90.00%
All Caches 9.32% 90.68%

We recently passed through 2700 active hides in Manitoba and I found some interesting stats compiled by the Turdle. The 2726 current active hides in the province were hidden by 506 different cachers, an average of 5.4 hides per hiding user. The top 10 hiders (2%) represent 24% of hides, top 40 (8%) over 50% of hides. 105 people (21%) have hidden more than the average of 5.4 caches, 401 (79%) less. 215 hiders (42%) have just 1 active cache hide in Manitoba.

Happy caching.

Hi, I'm just curious Question if anyone out there has the complete database of MB caches including archived caches. I have up to 2008/08/15. I've been thinking about updating the animation and cache stats again. Any help with that will be appreciated and should prove interesting.

Cheers, Dragonfreys

Very Happy Thanks to TurdleEggs once again for the update file.

Here's a few of the basics. Looks like geocaching is still growing by cache placements.

Interesting in that last graph that there have been more caches hidden in the last four months than in the first four years of caching in the province.

Here are the caches broken out by cache type

And by container

The top 30 total cache owners in Manitoba

and the top 30 owners of active (including temporarily unavailable) caches in Manitoba

I remember when I started caching in Manitoba in May 2002, there were only 47 caches. It looks like some of them were probably archived before TurdleEggs started keeping stats. I wish we could do queries on archived caches. Still, I'm sure we have 99.9% of all the caches.

I beleive that list of caches should be complete - including archives.

Here's the latest cache density for Winnipeg using the same classification as the 2008 image if you want to compare. There are some more solid hotspots.
