Bring on some 4x4 caches! |
Funny you should mention that; I was actually wondering if there would be any interest in combining the two sports like this. Looks like you would be
Recently, I've been talking w/ some of our club Members about placing some official club sponsored caches aimed at 4x4 travels in the SW part of the province. I have a few places in mind in my area, but need to clarify club sponsorship/officialisation and any cache placement guidelines (internal club rules) before I place anything on behalf of the club. The only worry I would have in undertaking this idea is drawing too much traffic (both vehicular and otherwise) into what may have been previously less travelled areas and causing a bit of a over-use problem which can bring with it larger issues. IMO protecting our wildlands has to be foremost, over and above personal enjoyment. _________________ I don't cache a lot, but they sure are a good excuse to go Jeepin! |

There are some caches around Manitoba that recommend 4x4 or ATV access but still have hikers go in and find them as well. Best bet is to search them out on Geocaching.com and see what type of traffic they generate.
Perhaps give those caches a visit and then judge for yourself if the areas you are thinking about would support the traffic volume (or lack of volume) that these existing ones get. _________________ "So do they sometimes hide caches in dog poo like this?" "No, that's real poo. You might want to put that down." |
