These can only be run once a week correct? I can't run all these lists the same day correct?

Thank you,

You can run any combination of queries to a limit of 5 per day. Although don't expect them to run all the time or on time. My general approach is only to request queries when I need them to limit the load on the servers which tend to be overloaded.

If you schedule any PQ to run every day, it is quite likely that some days it will not run and many days that it will run "late".
If you schedule a specific PQ once a week, it will usually run in the wee hours of the morning (always after midnight pacific time).
If you:
    create a brand new PQ
or create a copy of an existing PQ
or pick an existing PQ that hasn't run for a week or more

and schedule it to run on the current day of the week, it will usually run immediately.

Once you have these PQs can they be uploaded onto a SD card to be put into my GPSr (Garmin Colorado 300), if so what size card should I buy if this can be done?

My query of 500 caches is about 650kb in size so I don't think you'll have much trouble fitting them on any card that is currently available.

I noticed that my pocket query list wasn't as efficient as it could be, so I updated the dates. For the new folks reading this for the first time, this will help you to run an efficient group of Pocket Queries that will provide GPX or LOC files for all of the Manitoba caches. This is especially useful if you use an offline database such as GSAK or Cacheberry.

PQ1 Feb/5/2001 to Jun/24/2006 - 497 results
PQ2 Jun/25/2006 to Jun/21/2007 - 499 results
PQ3 Jun/22/2007 to May/17/2008 - 489 results
PQ4 May/18/2008 to Sept/27/2008 - 491 results
PQ5 Sept/28/2008 to Jun/22/2009 - 493 results
PQ6 Jun/23/2009 to Dec/31/2010 - 109 results

Just select the following when you run your query:
Name the query appropriately -see below.
Days to Generate: Leave blank for now.
How often the query runs: uncheck day of the week...
500 Caches
Any type
Any Container
***Several fields left alone. No boxes checked in the "That" or "And" sections.***
Select Manitoba in the State/Province list
None Selected for From Origin
Then Placed during should contain the ranges above. One range for each query.

When I named the query at the top of the list, I use a numeric prefix and then the date range: 1 - 2/5/2001 - 6/24/2006. That way they don't get all mixed up in your Pocket Query list.

Hope that helps somebody.

I haven't updated these in a long time. Since I did, I thought I might as well post a new set of dates here for others to use:

PQ1 Feb/5/2001 to Apr/12/2008 - 994 results
PQ2 Apr/13/2008 to Oct/20/2009 - 990 results
PQ3 Oct/21/2009 to Feb/25/2011 - 990 results
PQ4 Feb/26/2011 to Mar/5/2012 - 995 results
PQ5 Mar/6/2012 to Sept/2/2012 - 887 results
PQ6 Sept/3/2012 to Apr/1/2013 - 402 results

Just a note that with GSAK v8, you can run a "status check" (check for disabled/archived status) on each cache in your database. This means that you no longer have to run a pocket query to keep the old caches up to date.

You also have the ability to do a "refresh" (get the most recent cache information from geocaching.com including up to 30 most recent logs) on up to 6000 caches per day.

Good tip - I knew GSAK had more to offer than what I use it for! I need to spend more time checking out its features.

I know GSAK will access PQs directly so you don't have to download them anymore. But you still have to set up PQs at geocaching.com to get new caches in your database, right? Or old ones if you've never loaded them before? You can't set up new PQs in GSAK, can you?

No GSAK can't create PQs for you, it can only download existing PQs that you have already run.

It does have the ability to search for caches around a given radius, but when I've used that feature, it's never seemed to work very well. PQs are the way to go.

The method I use, since geocaching.com can now give 1000 caches in a PQ, is I made a 'cache along a route' and just created a path that follows the most common places I'll go in the city, made the 'width' of the path work out well, and use that as my weekly PQ. If I'm planning on caching anywhere that's beyond that, I'll just quickly whip up a custom PQ for it.

I just updated my PQs again, since older caches tend to become archived, and I thought I'd post the dates in case any one else would like to use them:

Code:

PQ  From           To              Count (as of 2013/08/07)
--  ----------     ----------      ------------------------
1   Feb 05, 2001   May 10, 2008    999
2   May 11, 2008   Jan 09, 2010    999
3   Jan 10, 2010   Jul 03, 2011    999
4   Jul 04, 2011   May 28, 2012    994
5   May 29, 2012   Jan 17, 2013    996
6   Jan 18, 2013   present (Aug 7) 987

It looks like we'll be up to 7 PQs for Manitoba very shortly...
