I'm looking to upgrade from my old Palm IIIxe and am looking for suggestions.  I've been watching the Palm TX and Lifedrive.  Reviews of them I have found online are mainly good with a few acceptable flaws in both cases.   Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Well, I went ahead and bought myself the Palm TX and it is awesome! Now I have to figure out how to make it Geocaching friendly. I'll have to try paperless caching now!

The easiest way, without needing special software on the PDA, is have GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) convert your gpx file to html. If your PDA can open webpages you are set and it has lots of cool features like showing you the closest caches, the last five logs and many of the cache page graphics. Lizardo put us onto this and we haven't looked back since. Used to use a gpxviewer program, but we lost the install everytime the batteries on the PDA died completely so this works much better for us.

If you decide to use an older Palm that doesn't have a decent HTML reader (or can't run it well) GSAK can also generate PalmDOC format files that most e-book readers can handle. No graphics, but not that many caches have images that are required to find the cache. CSpotRun (http://32768.com/bill/palmos/cspotrun/) is free and my favorite.

Note that GSAK is shareware, and will cost US$20 to register. While it does have a large number of unique features, if you are only interested in coverting Pocket Queries to PalmDOC, HTML or loading them into your GPSr, you can use GPSBabel (which is what GSAK uses in the background), which is free. GPSBabel is free, and available at http://www.gpsbabel.org/">http://www.gpsbabel.org/. For those who dislike using a command line, there is a free graphical front end called "GPSBabelWrapper" available at http://www.earthquakemap.com/gbwabout.html.

For the record, I use CSpotRun and GPSBabel to manage the ~1,500 waypoints that are loaded into my Palm (a 4M Palm IIIxe) and GPSr (a Lowrance iFinder M+M).

It seems I now have 2 PDA's and will now be selling one.

Anyone wanting a good shape Palm m505 I will sell it for what I got it for, on ebay.

I don't want to make money on it, but will sell it to cover my costs. Unless Customs dicks me around it will be 70 bucks Canadian. It comes with charger, case etc...

Msg me and I will forward to you all the info. I want to start paperless caching and well thought others may want to do the same...this is affordable, and a lot cheeper than a new one starting at 290 bucks.

I know Palms are much more popular out there, but don't forget about the PocketPC. It works much more like a regular PC. I have had both and LOVE my Toshiba e330. I've had it for years and it hasn't missed a beat. GSAK will export html files for your recorded caches and you can just drag and drop them into the PPC to be read by Internet Explorer. Very handy.

I'm using a free utility called gpxsonar on my pocketpc phone and it is great. I can take the same gpx file that I put into GSAK and import it straight into gpxsonar. It lets you specify a coordinate and lists the caches by proximity to your coordinates. It lets you record field notes about a cache (handy for keeping track of what you took / left) and tapping on any cache brings up the appropriate html page in Internet Explorer complete with the last five logs and most of the info you find on geocaching.com. It gives you pretty much everything you need to go paperless.

I use cachemate on my palm, works great for when I find I need the cache description, or (heaven forbid) a hint.  8$US for registration, but you can try the trial version which allows up to 10 entries.  works good for me!

Beeline and GPXview on the Ipaq  using Pocket PC.

Been bulletproof for us and coupled with Bluetooth and the Earthmate Bluelogger GPS  gives us paperless caching at its best!
