I just have one simple question, what is the difference between travel bug dog tags and geo coins?

Gegcoins are a numbered coins that travel in the goecaching game via geocaches, whereas Travel bug dog tags are a bar-coded dog tag attached to a toy of some kind. both items can be tracked online to see where they have traveled and can be purchased from the geocache store online. hope this answers your question.

There are different kinds of geocoins. The main ones are:

USA GeoCoins (sold by Geocaching.com) that usually hace a 5 digit number and are tracked in Geocaching.com just like "regular" travel bugs. They also show up on your Geocaching.com statistics.

Canadian GeoCoins (sold by www.geocoins.ca ) have a 4 digit number and have to be tracked exclusively at www.geocoins.ca

There are other types as well.

We've made homemade clay coins which are considered signature items rather than actual trackable geocoins. Mount10bike is a cacher who makes his own and has his own tracking numbers but few others have gone over very well. Signature items are a hot commodity for some cachers. We have done a lot of long-distance mailing trades with cachers from California, Texas etc who love to collect other cachers stuff. We personally love other people's handmade items but seldom would move them on unless specified. They are considered more like collectable items. We have received in trade a handmade magic wand, coins, buttons, magnets etc. My favorite trade was one of our coins for a cachers large pin from his wedding which doubled as a caching event. He invited all local cachers to it with co-ords posted and then gave out pins and magnets and such as wedding memorabilia. So many fun levels to this sport it makes your head spin.
