Okay, with a bit of transformation into a time series by when the caches were placed and colour coded by 2011 status (red=active, orange=temp unavailabe, yellow=achived) here is a 200K kmz file that will open in Google Earth. Note that when you save it you should replace the underscore character in the filename with a dot so it is named 2011Caches.kmz so it opens properly.

Once it does you can use the time slider at the top left to start animation of caches being placed with a date reference to boot.

Here's a link that will open the cache file directly in Google Earth so you don't have to download it and change the extension.

Here's a breakdown of active caches in Winnipeg by Winnipeg Health Authority neighbourhoods.

And here is the table sorted by decending active caches.

If anyone wants to do any further analysis or breakdown the excel sheet is attached.

I'm curious about these stats again, especially after the mega event so has anyone maintained the complete database of Manitoba caches?

Stonagal would be the one to check with as far as stats go. He may have something.

My, my. I've done stats for a couple years now and I thought I had a pretty detailed system, but I must tip my hat to the master.

Using pocket queries, I keep track of active caches province-wide over time, including how many active caches are still around from each year, but I have no comprehensive database. And I don't have enough know-how to produce the kind of maps I see you produced over the years.

Dragonfreys, you mentioned in a 2011-05-26 post that you have a database that includes all archived caches. That intrigues me, for three reasons: the first is that I love me some zombie hunting; second, the early history of Manitoba geocaching has always intrigued me; third, I maintain a bookmark list of MB caches that were hidden in 2001-2002 (http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=3e090535-bf65-428f-842b-39a024304c5b). I've managed to track down 33 hides, but you mentioned somewhere else (maybe in an early table?) that there were 36 between the two years. That means I'm missing three. From your timelapse map posted 2008-08-19, I see one of those is in the Killarney area and another is south of the TCH near Elkhorn. I would love to have a look at that 2008 database if you still have it and are willing to share Smile
