Speaking of ammo cans the fellow in Westbourne Army Surplus has them by the hundreds on pallets and we may be able to negotiate some kind of deal. Is that something the MBGA would be interested in pursuing? Who's our best wheeler dealer? Perhaps we can get them directly from military surplus auction in Shilo or Winnipeg? |
I spoke with the fellow who runs Westbourne Army Surplus this afternoon and he says he has 4000 50 cal ammo cans (approximately 4 L in size). He normally sells them for $10 a piece but if we bulk purchase 100 cans he's willing to drop the price to $8/can or 200 cans we can get for $7/can.
Next we need to decide if this is something the MBGA can do for it's community. It would help to know if there is much of a demand for these ammo cans in our community. Please respond to the attached poll to see if this something worth doing. I would be willing to paint them and stencil 'Official Geocache' for an extra dollar to the MBGA. |

Well we are up to 48 cans for 13 teams so most aren't looking for that many at a time. I will discuss this with the MBGA executive to see if this is something that we can do for this level of interest.
Thanks for participating. |

Someone might also want to check in at United Army Surplus when they re-open for their stock liquidation. Or contact the creditors, or something.
If we offer to buy all their cans in a lot, we might get a good deal...

| i picked up a couple of ammo cans. They were only 20% off United Army's regular price. Which means they are the same price as at Princess Auto. If you wait until later in the week, they will likely have bigger discounts. |

As of today (Friday, August 3), United Army Surplus only had 2 50-cal ammo boxes left that I could see. Prices are still only 20% off. It seems that S.I.R. purchased their inventory and is running the sale. I would also guess that they took the best items to sell for regular price at their store.
For now, it seems that most things are overpriced, so the 20% discount just brings it down to a reasonable price. Well, except for the Garmin Geko 301s they had listed at (are you sitting down?) ... $849.99! Even with the 20% discount that's still about 3 times the price it should be. |

I got one of those ammo cans on the day the sale started. When I was there, there was about 8 or so left. Sucks that the place went under though :{
EDIT: And yeah, I saw the price of those Geko's too. I figured it HAS to be a typo of some sort on the price tags. I figured one of the three numbers didn't belong in there, and it was one of those GPS systems that are under a hundred bucks maybe... but from what you describe, that's also inaccurate. Man... someone screwed up good on that. I wonder if they sold ANY _________________ Ia Numtaru, ia Lammia, ia Asaku, ia Pazuzu.

The MBGA has 30 regular sized ammo boxes in stock selling for $10 each.
If you’d like to purchase an ammo box, please send a message to MBGA Gear. The ammo boxes will also be available for purchase at MBGA hosted events.
Thanks DragonFreys for loading up your wagon at Westbourne Army Surplus _________________ I came for the caches, but I stayed for the people! |

Slippery had a good idea. Pick one of the cans in this pile as a cache.

If anyone’s looking for an ammo box I’ll be bringing a few with me to MBGA Pub Nite: When Irish Eyes Are Caching. Come find me if you’d like one! _________________ I came for the caches, but I stayed for the people! |
