I thought some of you might enjoy the video I took with my cell phone of the fireworks in Vita. The last shell shot off was a 16" monster that is the biggest that will be fired in Canada this year. It was supposed to be fired in April here in Winnipeg, but conditions were too windy. 16" is the largest shell they make. Very few get fired off in North America and the paperwork they have to go through to fire one is quite daunting I guess.

It goes up 1/4 mile and has a 3000 ft spread. In the video, you'll hear it launch at about 2:08 before seeing it go off a few seconds later.

Sounds cool but it's hard to get the perspective with a video.
I guess you had to be there.

It was the 10th anniversary of Vita's Canada Day festivities. Canfire was the company brought in to do the fireworks there. They had the 16 inch shell left over from April at the Fireworks convention in Winnipeg. They couldn't fire it then, so they did it in Vita.

You're right, you can't get the full perspective from the little video. The big thing to note is that you don't hear too many of the launches of the smaller fireworks. This one you do because of the sheer size of it.

It was pretty cool that you could hear the big one launch first, then a big explosion and slow fall out....awesome.
