The MBGA is considering organizing a geocaching expedition to Churchill this summer (or next).
Town of Churchill
The discussions are still in the early stage, but the idea is something like this:
Using personal vehicles, drive and geocache to Thompson Hop on the train in Thompson at a much reduced fare compared to a Winnipeg departure Rent vehicles and bear guards in Churchill and self-tour the Beluga whales, geocaches and the many other experiences Churchill has to offer Spend one or two nights in Churchill Take the train back to Thompson Drive and Geocache back to Winnipeg
In an attempt to gauge the amount of interest in an organized Churchill trip, please vote on whether you’d like to travel to Churchill, and how much you’d be willing to spend. This is not a commitment to participate but an indicator to the MBGA if an organized trip to Churchill is worth pursuing.
Transportation to and from Churchill would be relatively cheap, but lodging and meals in Churchill would add to the total bill.
Please post any questions or suggestions you have here. _________________ I came for the caches, but I stayed for the people! |

| Cool - I am not going to vote yet as this is some thing that my family wants to do and I have to talk to them about costs for all four. I have been to Churchill several times for work but only in the late fall and winter. Going in July would be a much better/more interesting time for the plant biologist in me. |

| I have always wanted to go to Churchill and am definitely interested. I would be interested in a more detailed cost breakdown when available. |

I'm interested....but summer is not the time for GFM to be away. Might only be me on the trip. _________________ MHz, a cacher who no more knows her destiny than a tea leaf knows the history of the East Indian Company |

I'm definitely interested and excited about this. The only thing that may keep me from going is my personal finances. (One of the downsides of working in Education is going on EI for the summer.) I WANT to go, just don't know if I can afford to go. [ ] |

I would agree with junglehair on the cost breakdown. Is the $800 only the transportation/accommodation from Thompson? Or does it include gas $ for the drive to Thompson. Breaking down the cost would also be beneficial for the NorMan cachers who don't have to travel as far to Thompson.
I would like to go, but it may be cost prohibitive. It is the chance of a lifetime tho. _________________ I use multi-billion dollar military satellite systems to find Tupperware in the forest. |

I would definitely like to go on this trip.
I may even find a work-related excuse to go to Churchill, or at the very least, work from the Churchill office for a couple days.
If it is going to be this summer, the sooner we decide upon a date (assuming we go ahead with this) the better for me. I need to book my vacation time soon. |

Check out the new lower prices and yes it is early July and you would also have a chance to talk to some of the biologist/scientists that come to Churchill at this time of year for research! |

We would be very interested in this adventure. We are new comers to caching, but are really enjoying it and think this would be a lot of fun. |
