Let me be the first to post a huge THANK YOU!!!!! to Z'tirnats and Z'ad for organizing this trip. As I am sure you can tell by reading any of our logs from that trip, we all had a blast. Stan and Lynn were superb tour guides and had all the details planned out for us so we just had to show up and head off on our next great adventure. The train ride was as slow and painful as they had warned us about, but with all those geocachers on board taking up the whole "first class" car, how could you not have a good time? There are so many memories I have come away with after this trip - it really was the trip of a lifetime. I feel sorry for those who weren't able to join us. Just in case there is a Churchill II trip planned for the future you might want to start saving your pennies now - you won't regret it.

Thanks again Stan/Lynn - I loved every minute of it. And thanks to the rest of the group for all the laughs and good times - can't wait to see all the pics.

Hudson Bay Line

Well, the first time I rode on the Hudson Bay Line
I went to buy a ticket and I was doing fine
I asked the station agent how soon my trip would end
He said, "You'll get to Churchill, boy, but only God knows when."

Well have you got a schedule, let's have a look at it
Yes I've got a schedule and it ain't worth two bits
Just take along a lot of grub, enough to see you through
You might get there in three four days or maybe a week or two.

Well the cars were old a draughty 'round the windows and the doors
We sat on wooden benches and we slept on wooden floors
A big pot-bellied stove, it was rusted all to hell
For heatin' and for cookin' and for spittin' on as well.

We stopped at creeks and clearings, we stopped at lakes and fords
We stopped beside the muskeg where mosquitoes came in hoards
We stopped at bays and rivers, at rocks and waterfalls
We even stopped at places where there's nothin' there at all.

"Now boys, we've hit a washout," the conductor he did say
"And if she don't get mended I'm afraid we're here to stay.
I need a bunch of volunteers, that's you and you and you."
I broke my back a-linin' track until the train got through.

Well now they've got a diesel train that's really mighty nice
Now they've got a cat train that goes across the ice
Then they've got that airline, it's all the latest fad
But they are never gonna have the good times that we had.

A big thank you to all the geocachers that went, it was easy to coordinate with such a fine group. We would be more than willing to spend 18 1/2 hours x 2 on a slow train again with the likes of you all. (Next time we derail it in Gillam and get the two caches there)

What a great trip. The Turnips did an absolutely amazing job organizing the tour of Churchill. Thank you. I didn’t have to worry about a thing – just enjoy every minute of it. Our bus tour guide/bear guard was informative and entertaining, as was the director and student tour guide at the NSRC. Everywhere we went in Churchill I was treated well and enjoyed great service. And of course I had the pleasure of spending six days with a fun bunch of cachers! Churchill seems to have something different for me each time I visit and this time the highlights were winding through ice flows in Zodiacs and touring the NSRC while it was active with student researchers.

Thanks, Lynn and Stan for all the work that went into making this such a great vacation for us. We really enjoyed it and have lots of good memories.
We got back home yesterday after a 2000km trip from Winnipeg to Thompson and Churchill. Then from Churchill to Thompson, Snow Lake, Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, The Pas, Swan River, Neepawa, Gladstone and then home. I had a couple of rough days with the flu, and I’m still getting over the resultant head cold, but still, we had a great time exploring and caching. We found 58 caches, had a couple of DNF’s and found all the wolves. We’ll upload some pictures once we organize them a bit.
