Is there a place in Winnipeg where you can buy nanos, coins, bugs etc? I am getting close to putting out my first cache.
I am so hooked , I think I am frothing at the mouth. |

Sorry – there are currently no nano’s available - I can sell you a nice ammo box though There’re a few Manitoba coins around for sale yet (I’ve got some) and Travel Bugs are available from the MBGA. You can usually pick them up at events. There're several MBGA events coming up: GeoVenture 2009 on Aug 29 and 09-09-09 Multi-Event on 09-09-09.
An event is a great place to meet the local cachers and pick up some of the things you’re after. If you can’t make an event, you can contact the MBGA though this link: http://www.mbgeocaching.ca/contact/list _________________ I came for the caches, but I stayed for the people! |

| I can confirm. I tried to purchase some nanos. Ended up purchasing a couple of 5 gallon pails instead. I think they said that the manufacturer had a problem with the manufacturing process and had to shut down the machine. |

I heard the Eye of Sauron purchased all the nanos and they are now out of stock (forever!) Lock & Locks, however, can be purchased at your nearest Zellers or the evil empire (Walmart).
Seriously though, good luck with your first hide. |

| Whatever kind you place, at some point in time it will need maintenance so it should be placed where you can look after it or it will need to be disabled until you can. |

| They are very sticky about the cache saturation rule. I found that out the hard way. |

My advice for placing a cache is the same advice I received. Thus:
When picking a spot for your cache, ask yourself "Why am I bringing someone here". If the only answer is "to get a smiley", I'd look for another spot. Hence why my 'All Your Base' cache is archived .
But yeah... I like caches that 'bring' me somewhere, be it a park not many people know of, an informational plaque, a fun trail to walk/bike, interesting architecture, a nice place to relax/have a picnic, etc, etc. _________________ Ia Numtaru, ia Lammia, ia Asaku, ia Pazuzu.

If you are going to place a cache that is far from your home coordinates (more than 100 km say), you will need to add a Reviewer Note to explain how you intend to maintain the cache.
I have several caches in the Gimli/Camp Morton/Riverton area, but my family has a cottage in the area. I also have a cache in Mountain, North Dakota, but my brother and his family live near there. As long as you can provide a reasonable maintenance plan, there should be no trouble getting the cache listed.
Word of advice though - be sure you are willing to travel that far to check on or fix a cache before placing it there. I had one on the TransCanada just past Portage that was muggled several times. I found that I didn't really travel that way very often and it became an annoyance to have to run out there to check every time there was a DNF, so I ended up archiving it. |
