Garmin quietly released a new toy in the latest beta for these handhelds, you can now upload custom map overlays to the units. These is a pretty powerful feature and the first time I've heard of it being available on a handheld. Park and trail maps are the first thing that come to mind as prime uses, but you could upload any type of map.

I hope to test this out next week on a new Garmin Oregon 550 I've ordered for "work". It could be a fairly useful feature since many of our older plans used a local coordinate system.

This announcement doesn't seem to be catching much fanfare, but coming soon you'll be able to purchase sat/aerial imagery downloads for Colorado/Oregon/Dakota units. Looks like US only so far, but we'll see.

I just received my Oregon and luckily stumbled across this forum topic. Iíve located the City of Winnipeg jepg trail maps for 13 city parks and forests so now Iíll try to make them loadable onto my GPSr. Has anyone done this already?
