I'm not saying that these are geocaching related, but we just received this notification at the office. Reminder: No one should be hiding geocaches under bridges, especially those that are main arteries in a city.
Osborne Street bridge closed by police

WINNIPEG — Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the Osborne Street Bridge due to an ongoing police investigation.
The bridge is the second closed today by police. The Arlington Street Bridge was closed over the noon hour due to discovery or a suspicious package. The package turned out not to be explosive and the Arlington bridge has reopened.
The Osborne bridge will be closed until further notice.
Winnipeg Transit said routes 36, 60, 61, 75 and 76 are also being affected by the closure _________________ I use multi-billion dollar military satellite systems to find Tupperware in the forest. |

I know they're not mine if they are those kinda things Would a reviewer not see that the cache would be hidden will be under a bridge in a major city? I'm still learning how all this works & after hiding a couple they seem to do a good job locating where the area is. _________________ Those who dare win! |

Neither bridge closure was geocache related... _________________ Creeping around in the bushes at night is going to get me in trouble one of these days.... |

It would be nice if they showed a picture of the object, or told us what it was.
Maybe the police should log onto Geocaching.com whenever a package is found so they can verify that it is or isn't a cache. |

This is always mentioned, but can never happen. |

Exactly, it can't happen. The police can not disregard a suspicious package just because an anonymous person with an odd avatar on a website says it isn't dangerous...
Caching is the bane of police bomb squads everywhere. I completely agree with Dani's comments above. _________________ Creeping around in the bushes at night is going to get me in trouble one of these days.... |

I realize these two bridge incidents weren’t cache related, but it’s a reminder (as Dani and Will have stated) that we should not be placing caches under major railway or vehicle bridges. It will result in further restriction and regulation of geocaching.
The idea of the police using geocaching.com to see if a suspicious package is a geocache sounds appealing, but would only work for the honest terrorists. It’s not reasonable. _________________ I came for the caches, but I stayed for the people!

I'm misinterpreting that as meaning the terrorists would list their bombs as caches with less than appealing FTF rewards. |

Gives new meaning to the cache called BOOM! in Carman
I can imagine someone starting an account under 'Achmed, the Dead Terrorist'. LOL _________________ "So do they sometimes hide caches in dog poo like this?" "No, that's real poo. You might want to put that down." |

That would make it a puzzle cache. You only get to log it if you cut the right wire and it doesn't explode |

"About a dozen fire trucks from Anaheim and Fullerton were sent to the area. A hazmat team and the Orange County bomb squad were called to analyze the container, Martinez said."
A dozen? For a light post? I can see the bomb squad, hazmat team, and 1 fire truck ... but 12?!? _________________ I use multi-billion dollar military satellite systems to find Tupperware in the forest. |

Yeah, 'cause you know if it's a bomb you want to make sure you take out the whole fire department when it goes off... |

Too bad because that's some really bad PR for geocaching. I am very surprised it doesn't happen more often.
Don't get me started on fire fighter jokes.... OK...
Q. How can you tell when a firefighter is dead????
