ok.... I'm so new here that I'm shiny!
I have just registered and plan on doing some cashing shortly. I have read GPS reviews and over and over again I see "paperless caching" refered to. I have a Etrex Summit which I plan on using for a while but I am curious as to what paperless cashing means.
thanks |

Hey.. welcome to the fold and all of that.
Paperless caching means being able to download all of the data (type, size, difficulty, terrain, attributes, hints, and some amount of logs) from Geocaching.com onto an electronic device, so that you have it all with you but without printing it off.
It can mean just loading it onto a PDA or cell phone, but in this case it would mean that you can load it onto the GPS so you will have a list of caches and their details. |

If you can loaf the cache info you could probably preform a "go to" function of some sort?
Interesing stuff. Looking forward to doing some seeking in the next few weeks. I am sorry I missed the session in Selkirk last night. I'll keep an eye out for future.
thanks for the reply. |

It came up in casual conversation last night that we're overdue for a Paperless Caching seminar.
The Summit doesn't support Paperless, so you would use that in combination with another device.
If you own a PDA, like a Palm Pilot, or a smart phone, like a BlackBerry, iPhone or any number of other smart phone devices on the market then you can easily get started.
The other two keys are the computer you run, Windows, Mac or Linux and if you have Premium membership.
Let us know what you have and we can recommend a combination for you to get started.
Also, if you search our forums, we have some paperless caching help discussions going.
