Nominations are requested for MBGA director’s positions to be elected at the Annual General Meeting on May 1, 2011.

The board of directors will serve to manage the affairs of the MBGA for a one year term following the election. If you, or someone you know, would like to volunteer please e-mail with the name and contact information of the nominee. Permission must be obtained before nominating another person. Nominees should submit a statement of their qualifications before the AGM.

Nominations are accepted for any Manitoba resident, 18 years or older, who is an eligible voting member of the MBGA for at least thirty (30) days prior to the election. Nominations are open until midnight, April 17, 2011.

For further details on the election and operation of the MBGA please refer to the Election Policy and Bylaws. Reviewing past meeting minutes of the MBGA committee will also give you an idea of what to expect.

Nominees are running for a director’s position on the board. Once the group of directors has been elected, the board will elect officer positions.

Here is the list of nominees to be on the board of the MBGA for 2011:

Ron (RW/RW)

I have been retired for 9 years and now spend most of our time geocaching, painting, golfing and visiting with family and friends. I am a chartered accountant by training and am currently a founding member and director of the Northern Visual Arts Center (NorVA). Before retiring I was VP of Planning for Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting. Over the years I have served on a number of volunteer boards including president of the Flin Flon Curling Club, president of the Flin Flon Jr Bomber hockey team, and was Co - Chairman of the host committee for the RBC Canadian Junior A hockey championship.

Andrew (IAMSTIG)

I was a lifer in 4-H and served on the local and district boards all though high school so I'm familiar with working on boards like the MBGA. I'm a techie geek with a Biology/Geography degree and have been working for Ducks Unlimited Canada for 15+ years. I have two wonderful young girls, a wife, and a crazy dog. I'm actively involved in soccer and enjoy kite boarding, snowboarding, running, birding, camping, photography and travel.

Sandy (swelbergen)

Teacher, procrastinator, fairweather geocacher. Finds as swelbergen, hides as ChapmanSchool. Loves footwear, scarves, and Chapstick, all essential for a successful geocaching jaunt, yet still needs a decent pair of rubber boots. Personally and unabashedly responsible for Skoki and icimondo, both of which are responsible for abating her fear of rain, spiders and tornadoes. Driven to teach school children all about sustainability, GPS, remote sensing, estimating, road safety, problem solving and responsible use of technology (i.e. GEOCACHING), just so she has an excuse to teach out-of-doors and escape from the classroom. "Um, yeah, we're on a field trip..."

Jo-Ann (angelfreak)

My name is Jo-Ann Walls and my caching name is AngelFreak, which I chose because I've been collecting angel items since I was 16 years old. I started geocaching in July 2010 and found my first 507 caches without using a gps. Instead, I used google satellite images to draw the maps with X marking GZ. This took a little more preparation but worked most of the time. I even completed the Battlecache challenge by mid December without a gps, except for the very last hit.
I decided to attend my first MBGA board meeting in November 2010 as I had an event idea I wanted to bring forward. The following month I was appointed part of the board. In February, I organized my first event for the board and took position as Interim Events Coordinator in March as I have always enjoyed organizing parties and such. I have learned a lot by attending each board meeting and look forward to contributing more to the geocaching community in the future.

Kristina (TXNCHK)

My name is Kristina Graham (aka TXNCHK) and I am interested in sitting on the MBGA board for the 2011-2012 term. I moved to Winnipeg from Fort Worth, TX in 2004 to be with my now husband, Jurg Schlup (aka MonkeyMan), whom I married at Pine Ridge Hollow in Birds Hill Park in 2006. I graduated with an MA in English from the University of Manitoba in the summer of 2008. While completing my degree, I served as Treasurer for the Association of Graduate English Students (pAGES) from the spring semester of 2005 through the fall semester of 2008. I also concurrently served as Social Convener (Event Planner) for pAGES during the 2007 and 2008 school years. I currently work from home as a technical editor and writer, and I recently completed my certification in Web Design from the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Winnipeg in 2010. I had seen an episode of CSI: Las Vegas which featured Geocachers many years ago, but I did not join the Geocaching movement until October 2010 when my good friends of team Pugbaby took me along and showed me the ropes. Since then, I have become exceedingly enthusiastic about the sport and look forward to all the Geocaching adventures to come!

Kyla (KRCWpg)

I have worked in the daycare field since 1999 working with infants to 12 years old (including special needs children) and have continued my career until the present time. I love children and I love working with them and watching them grow. In 2005 my daughter, Chloe, was born. In 2009 I took Early Childhood Education Introduction and passed the 40 hour course through Red River College with a 99%.
During the last 11 years, I have taken some courses in Culinary Arts and computers. In 2001 I helped to run a kitchen "The Muffin Oven." I I have worked on and off with McDonald's and Subway between 1998 and 2001. In 2006 I worked in a Daycare kitchen, as well I have worked in the kitchen at my current daycare.
I love helping out where ever I can and where I'm needed and I am usually a quick learner.
On July 7, 2010, I found my first geocache called "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and I have been hooked on caching ever since. Most of my caching blitzes were done without a gps, where I just used a pen and paper to draw out the cache location with the satellite map that google presents. Since I've hidden my first cache, "Not Sydney, Australia," I've been hooked on hiding them too (with the help of my phone navigator and AngelFreak's gps). Since I have become a member of the MBGA, I would love to continue helping where I am needed.
Please consider me to stand for the coming year in the MBGA. Thank you once again for your nomination.

Mike (Glacier_ice)

Hello everyone. I'm Glacier_ice, aka Mike, aka Red Shirt Brian (according to Dani Carriere)
In addition to being a Geocacher since 2007, I'm a Dad with 2 (and one on the way) ice cubes in the tray.
It's been my pleasure to serve the MBGA on the Board for two years, one as a member at large and this past year as president.
Sometimes I feel as if I'm a professional volunteer as I'm also a volunteer television director and a long time volunteer with Special Olympics. That just keeps me too busy to come up with too many more evil geo-puzzles.
I'm looking forward to serving the MBGA for another year.
Thank you and no Edited Photos please.

The Board shall consist of five to twelve Board Members.

As per the MBGA Election Policy, if there are insufficient nominees to fill the Board positions, a call for nominees from the floor shall occur
at the AGM
