I just found my last two hits tonight! *dancing* _________________ “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”

So I got a find for my last Battlecache square the other night and now had to do the sorting in order to make sure a cache wasn't doing double duty. I think I spent 3 hours on the first 50 squares, and that was after using a computer program I wrote last year to tell me the possibilities for each square and for each cache. At that rate I was going to spend another 10 hours choosing which cache to put in each square. So instead I bit the bullet and completed the program, essentially adding the game AI to solve my puzzle for me. It probably took 2 hours.
If anybody knows how to run a simple Java program and wants my code I would be happy to share. If you don't know that and can prepare a list of your GC codes in the format "GC1X2Y","GC3B6Z"... then I can run the program on your list and give you the result. (message me) . I make no guarantees but at the moment I am trusting it for myself.
For anybody wanting the code, be aware that due to the late hour at which I have generally worked on this and the 3 different times months apart that I worked on it, it is not a shining beacon of the coding standards I enforce at work. I use multiple names for the same data in some places but in general you should find it pretty readable and if anybody does want it I will add a few more comments than I did for myself.
Now to enter them all. |

Unless I"m completely blind the contest has disappeared off of the MBGA's website so no need to sweat entering them all. |

It's just got more articles ahead of it now. There is a link at the bottom to view previous entries or something to that effect.
It can also be found here http://www.mbgeocaching.ca/node/884

Yes, no worries if you had to log for the 28th any caches found on the 29th. Something messed up in the coding. We won't be penalizing for that. _________________ "So do they sometimes hide caches in dog poo like this?" "No, that's real poo. You might want to put that down." |

Congratulations Manitobans! The Battlecache III game is now closed. We entered a record 6,410 hits on the game board!
The Battlecache III winners will be drawn at the AGM (Baconpalozza) on April 14th, 2012. Ship placements will be posted before then.
(The random ship placements still need to be done before we can post them.) _________________ "So do they sometimes hide caches in dog poo like this?" "No, that's real poo. You might want to put that down." |

So why were we not given a few days after February 29th to get our entries in? I usually wait until the end to log my hits because I want to try to fill as much of the board as possible, so I was waiting until the end. I go to log my hits today and I find the contest is closed and we can't log anymore?
IMHO, the contest should close at the end of February, but cachers should be given an additional week to get all their hits logged, especially this year considering the size of the board.
Just my opinion, I'm interested in hearing other peoples thoughts. Thanks. |
