|Hey folks, just got an update about the game day parking plan in relation to the University and it seems of interest to the Geocaches in the area, so here's the info. None of this is confirmed but it's looking like it will stay this way. Short version after the text dump.
Dear UMSU member,
With the Winnipeg Blue Bombersí stadium on our campus and the 2012 season fast approaching, we wanted to share with you what we know of the University of Manitoba Game Day parking plan. We recently learned more about the parking plan in a meeting with the University Administration, and we are extremely interested in hearing your feedback.
On game days, you will only be allowed to enter the University of Manitoba Fort Garry campus by car if you have a University of Manitoba parking pass. If you do not have a parking pass, you will not be allowed to enter campus via car. You will still be able to walk, bus, bike, etc onto campus. Additionally, the only open entrance to campus during game times will be the south entrance at Kings Drive. You will not be able to drive onto the Fort Garry campus via University Crescent or Chancellor Matheson even if you do have a valid parking pass. Upon entering campus, parking-pass holders will be able to park in any of A lot, B lot, or I lot, as all other lots will be reserved for Stadium patron parking.
For anyone already parked in any lot other than A, B, or I, you will have to clear your car from the parking lot at least an hour and a half before game time. Game times will vary from 6 PM to 8 PM, and therefore you would have to clear your car from the lot by somewhere between 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, depending on when the game begins that evening. If your car is not removed from the lot, you will be ticked and possibly towed. There will be five games during the fall 2012 academic term, and you can find the dates of the games on the Blue Bombers website.
The University has set up an open house to spread the word about this plan on February 29th between 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM in the MPR (2nd Floor University Centre). This is an opportunity for ALL students and staff to learn more about the current event day parking plan, and then to provide feedback.
At UMSU, we were concerned about this plan and how it would affect students. We would strongly encourage you to attend the open house on February 29th. Additionally, if you would like to provide comments, or ask questions, email us at email@example.com. We will answer any questions that we are able to, and will forward comments on to the University of Manitoba.
Enjoy the reading break!
Long story short, you won't be able to even enter the University area by car unless you have a parking pass during Bomber home games this season. If this concerns you (this concerns me a lot, but for other reasons) feel free to toss out an email or come out on Wednesday afternoon!
