I want to start hiding some caches and I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on where are the best places to find supplies.



I have seen the lock and lock containers at Walmart. Is there anyone else that sells them and are there any other containers that are recommended?



Where does one buy the camo tape that I keep seeing on caches? Alternatively, I'm considering getting some black, brown and green spray paint so that my girls can make a craft out of it. Anyone know if spray paint sticks to those plastic containers?



Is it worth my while to hide a cache now with winter just around the corner or should I wait until spring? I'm thinking that the activity must die down pretty significantly once the temperatures drop.

I usually get Lock n Lock at zellers. Ammo cans from Princess Auto or Army Surplus. Camo tape from Canadian Tire. Spray paint should work if you prep the surface properly, clean it and scuff it up. Its a good time to hide the cache if its accessible in winter, or at least somewhat.

Dollarama has decent lock-n-lock containers of various sizes all for a dollar. Be sure to get the ones with a rubber seal. Camo duck tape seems to have gone up in price since we started a year ago, and can be found in the paint section of Canadian Tire. If you take old wire coat hangers you can often cut, form and tape them while applying the camo tape so that the cache can be hung or suspended above ground in winter in a variety of hiding spots. You can also disguise them inside a hide like a bark round, grass bundle, or something else that looks like it belongs in the area, but is not interesting enough for the casual passerby to investigate. Just some ideas. There are also a number of very clever hidden in plain sight types of caches shown in the groundspeak forums that can give you other ideas.

Editing post to avoid spoiling my first cache's camoflage.

Long story short... if you want to make it a craft project with any kinds of paints or glues, I'd definitely suggest scuffing the surface of any container you have with sandpaper or something like that.  Also... if you use any glue, make sure it's not the kind that hardens solid, but will still have some flexibility after dried.
