Welcome

Welcome Introduction

Geocaching is a worldwide adventure sport which utilizes GPS devices to hide and seek hidden containers called geocaches. (Learn more about geocaching) To get started geocaching, all you need is a GPS receiver and a geocache location. (Learn more about getting started) You can find a nearby geocache location at geocaching.com by entering an address or town into the search box.

The Manitoba Geocaching Association (MBGA) strives to advance the sport of geocaching through social activities, public education and promotion of geocaching. (Learn more about the MBGA).

Upcoming events

2008 Winter Blizzard

2008 Winter Blizzard

It may be cold and snowy but its a great time to get out and enjoy the season with some caching. The MBGA is hosting two contests for members during the months of January and February as part of the Winter Blizzard.

Hiding Contest

Hide a cache during the Winter Blizzard. It must be winter friendly (with the winter friendly attribute) and have "SNOW" in the cache name. It's just that simple. Caches must be published by midnight February 29, 2008. Winners will be drawn from the hidden caches.

Clue Contest

Gnathan the Gnome has been found murdered. Detective Cam Mealeon is on the case and has already identified suspects and weapons. The Detective needs your help to solve the case. Track his progress in the forums and look for clues in winter friendly caches and events. Once you think you have solved it, Enter Your Guess. You can guess more than once, but only your last guess counts. Guesses must be submitted by midnight February 29, 2009. Those who solve the murder will be entered to win.

Prizes will be awarded for both contests at the Pub Nite Event in March celebrating the MBGA's anniversary. If you can't attend the event, we'll get your prize to you.

  1. When did you start Geocaching?
  2. Our first find was June 21, 2006 at The Ditch Digger. We actually started a couple of days earlier and had gone out to find this cache by just searching with the posted coordinates. We returned home to read more fully to find out this was a puzzle and more work needed to be done. Back out on June 21st gave us our first victory and we were hooked.

  3. How did you find out about Geocaching?
  4. Ztirnats had an iPaq that was used for work and a Bluetooth BlueLogger GPS receiver came with it.

Hunting Season

Elmer the Hunter

Its once again Hunting Season. Wearing bright coloured clothing is a good idea when out in the woods. Even if it is just a little bit off the road, geocachers have run into hunters, even in areas that do not allow hunting.
