Géocacheurs Tourisme Riel (Carmène Fiola) Nomination Statement
Géocacheurs Tourisme Riel is a grouping of tourism partners in the Riel District (St-Boniface, St-Vital and St-Norbert) who are looking at using geocaching and gps adventures as a way to have people discover unique and historical areas in this region. This initiative is spearheaded by Tourisme Riel, the tourism marketing agency for this region.
My name is Carmène Fiola. I am one of the founding members and Tourism Coordinator at Tourisme Riel. We have been studying ways to introduce GPS technology in the marketing and promotions of our region. GPS units are available at our offices. We have also developed GPS adventures for school groups, team building activities, and for special events, which not only introduce participants to geocaching and GPS use, but also have them visit our area attractions and historic sites. We have placed many caches, launched a geocoin and created an event for geocachers in 2008.
I was elected to the 2008 MBGA Board and became Training Coordinator. I was able to use my training experience and knowlegde to help the MBGA offer training sessions and be the contact person with these interested groups.
I feel that there is a natural link between the tourism industry and geocaching and would like to keep offering my tourism experience and training experience in 2009.
I thank you for your consideration of my nomination to the Board of Directors of MBGA.
