dani_carriere (Dani Carriere) Nomination Statement
I started caching in May of 2002. In early 2005, Master Instigator, skaven and I started the Manitoba Geocaching Association. In the four years since its inception, I’ve been very proud of the growth of geocaching in this province. This growth is primarily due to the dedication of the MBGA Board of Directors and the geocaching community within the MBGA membership. My role on the Board has ranged from Vice-President, to President, to past-President and in 2008, I served as Vice-President again. I would be happy to serve in any role on the executive.
I have worked as a software developer for a local financial corporation for 23 years. I graduated from Business Administration and Computer Programmer/Analyst at Red River College. And I graduated from high school at the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School in Swan River.
I enjoy volunteering very much. Aside from my time with the MBGA executive, I also volunteer as a Venue Team Leader at the MTC Warehouse for the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival every July since 1989. I am the Crew Chief for the Party Crew at the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival. I’ve volunteered for that festival for four years. I have also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Manitoba Museum of Nature, Big Sisters, Manitoba Theatre for Young People and many other organizations. I volunteered for the first time in 2008 with the Amazing Car Rally for Special Olympics.
In February, 2008, I presented an HTML seminar for the MBGA geared towards making better cache pages. I assisted the trainer in two of the MBGA / Leisure Guide geocaching training sessions. I have assisted in organizing some events and fundraisers. I put together the Cacher of the Month web page on our site each month. I’m willing to step in and help whenever I can.
I pride myself in being a people person. One game I like to play is to memorize people’s real names and associate it to their caching names. I’ve stumbled a few times, but I seem to be able to remember almost everyone I’ve met. I like to make sure that everyone feels welcome at our events and make a concerted effort to talk to new people.
Thank you for considering my nomination to the MBGA Board of Directors. I look forward to working with our team and our geocaching community in 2009.
