Motion by: Dani, Second by: Jacques, Passed

Board officer insurance

Tim (turdleEggs)

Discussion was held, feeling was low risk for MBGA exec. Other associations don't seem to do it. We should maybe look into coverage for larger events. Geoventure etc. Maybe the decision should be held off until more information is received.

Look into pricing for events. Liability form may need to be developed

MBGA Events Report

August 6, 2009
by Sandra (junglehair)

  • Geocaching at the Zoo II - Sunday, June 21, 2009
Another well attended event - especially for newbies and families. Even better turn out than last year - there were 47 "Attended" logs. MBGA provided GPS units and instructions for those that wanted to try geocaching for the first time, and donated the kids prize (stuffed monkey).

  • Lower Fort Garry's first annual Historic Hunt - Sunday, July 26, 2009
This event attracted lots of newbies and families as well - there were 26 "Attended" logs. MBGA donated a couple of prizes for this event (1 ammo can, 1 Lock & Lock - complete with stash note, log book and tradeables)

  • GeoVenture 2009 - Friday August 28 - Sunday August 30, 2009
    • Compass Coins sent 4 geocoins as prizes for the event as well coupons for a 20% discount valid for 30 days after the event for all attendees.
    • Contacted Garmin to request prizes as well, but have not heard anything yet
    • Will likely need a few more prizes. Sandra will pick up a larger prize per our discussion at the last MBGA meeting.
    • Sandra can purchase inexpensive hamburgers and hot dogs through a coworker. Will compare prices with Costco to see which is cheaper.
  • Pub Nights
    • "Poutine, Geocoins and Lovelies" by OHMIC at Garage Café - July 10
    • 09-09-09 Multi-Event: Manitoba - September 9
This is part of a series of events taking place around the world. A geocoin has been created and each event will have a different colour of this coin available for the attendees. The Manitoba coins will be black and white. Cost was $342.56 Canadian for 50 coins. They will be sold at the event for $10 each, limit 2 per person. Anyone not able to attend the event can be put on a waiting list to purchase the remaining coins if any.
  • Hiding Seminar
    • MilesMac's school is not available during the summer. Discussed possibility of having it at MEC, but with their new line of bicycles, they don't have as much room in the store to use for meeting space
    • Perhaps this event should be combined with another topic to draw a wider audience
  • Other Upcoming Events
